Mcmurphy v. BIGGGG NURSSEEEEEEE!!!

I believe the reason why the big nurse and Mcmurphy are instant enemies is because of Mcmurphys ability to pick out leadership and to immediately take action against it. Big Nurse of coarse has the same reaction time, and tries to protect her throne of power, beginning the war that will probably rage till the end of the book.
I also believe that Harding stands up for the Big Nurse because he is one of those people who can still be swayed to join the rebel side, or the coherent side, but hes afraid of joining either side, so hes buds with the rebels, and buds with the Big Nurse, granting him a semi peaceful, but low, life.

Holden and Jane sittin in a tree

I Believe that Holden and Jane, at one time, might have been at the borderline between friends to being in a relationship. This might have been stopped by Holden moving, or going to school, causing Holden to fall into his current rut. He feels overprotective of Jane because he wants her to be exactly like her old self when he finally gets to the point. on the other hand, his hopes were smashed after his original relationship, so now he doesn't have the confidence to call her up. So in some ways, it might be because of Jane that Holden is the way he is now.
